31 July 2013 Staff Announcements Thurrock Marching Brass are pleased to announce that Ken Mansfield has been appointed as Deputy Corps Director, and will also oversee all winterguard activity on behalf of the Corps Director, Darren Crisp. Ken is one of the original boys who started at Thurrock Drum & Trumpet Corps in 1973. Thurrock Drum & Trumpet Corps changed it’s name to Thurrock Marching Brass in 1979. His knowledge as a marching member, designer, leader and family member of TMB over a considerable number of years as well as his Judging experience is adding great strength to Darren’s staff team. Ken also has extensive winterguard experience, leading Thurrock Academy to WGUK Championship winning status in several classes after the original band closed its doors back in 1989, including 3 Open Class victories. Ken has been heavily involved in sharing his experience with the band over the past year or so, writing the promoted A Class guard show for the 2013 winter season, and has written the visual program for the 2013 summer show entitled Ker-Ching! Speaking of the appointment, Corps Director Darren Crisp comments “I am extremely pleased to confirm Ken’s appointment as my deputy as well as looking after all aspects of the winter side of the band and to lead Thurrock Academy guards forwards. All Thurrock Academy winterguard teams will report through Ken. His experience is already starting to pay dividends, and I very much look forward to seeing how things develop over the coming months and years. In addition to Ken, I am lucky to have a great staff base and one thing that we do try and do is to bring the youngsters through and to start to develop them into the next generation of leaders. I would like to thank all my staff for their continued support, but would like to make a special mention to Kelsea Mepham and Ryan Corcoran. Both of these young people have been a tremendous help all season”. Thurrock Marching Brass’ Chairman, Paul Morgan adds “The one thing that we were looking for in a Corps Director when we appointed Darren, was a strength of character and resolve that would ensure that as the band grows, people are put into positions that will assist that effort in a positive and supporting way. Having Known Ken for the better part of my own life, I, and the board are absolutely delighted in this appointment, and we all wish him every success in his new role. Darren has shown that he is an extremely capable leader, and I am sure that the band will continue to grow and to provide the young people under our charge with experiences that will last a lifetime, and just as we all did when we were involved in the original band will continue to March Forward and Never Look Back!”
