33% of all declawed cats have behavioral changes. This is usually seen in litterbox issues, because they associate scratching in litter with pain in their hands. Declawing is a practice that is outdated, far before people had the sense to speak up about how cruel it is. When I worked for my veterinarian, I watched a declaw surgery and it was horrific. Imagine taking your cats fingertip, and chopping it off with a tool that looks identical to a single hole punch. Your cat then spends nearly a week in a cage wrapped in bandages, and thats if theres no complications. Many times, doctors dont get all of the bone - so fragments result in extreme pain as the cat grows. Owners then dump these animals in shelters, where they dont make good candidates for adoption because the paperwork reads: Litterbox misuse. These poor cats suffer for the rest of their lives, and nobody ever stops to say oh it was my fault for declawing them. Please, please stop declawing your cats! Buy large cardboard scratchers, buy soft paws, take them for regular trims...anything but chopping off their fingertips! I guarantee that your furniture will be the first target the moment your declawed cat decides it no longer can use the litterbox. Then youre out the declaw surgery money, and the cost of your furniture. Thank you to The Paw Project for speaking out! pawprojectmovie/
