365!!! Today is a special Update. It has been officially one year since we heard those life changing words, Your child has cancer! This time last year, his Dad and I were sitting up in PICU watching our baby be rushed with all sorts of pokes, tests and oxygen, scared and honestly confused. From that day forward, Matthew has beaten the odds, surprised Drs and Nurses with his strength and taken us all for a whirlwind of a ride. With ups and downs, he has stride through and will see this to the end. I do not want to call today an anniversary as that sounds like something to celebrate, and we celebrate everyday that he is here continuing to fight and be that tough guy. Rather, today is a milestone of many pasts. Below is a summary of Matthews journey and pictures I find fitting for today. His first set of Beads of Courage when he was diagnosed to his Beads of Courage today. IN THE 365 DAYS, MATTHEW HAS HAD: 25 Lumbar Punctures Interthical Chemo (chemo in spine) 64 Rounds of Chemo 83 Blood Product Transfusions 231 Days Inpatient (in hospital) 286 Days of Dasatnib (ph+ gene chemo) Hyponatremia Colitis Kidney Stones Neuropothy Stomach and Esophagus Ulcers C-Diff x2 Liver issues Gallstones NTM Infection 2 BALs (bronc washes) 1 Lung Biopsy 1 Double Lumin Portacath 1 Double Lumin Power Broviac It is amazing what a body, any body much-less a tiny body, will endure just to keep on living and to see his body fight as hard as it has, just leaves us in awe of him. His journey and fight is no where near done but the hope that it is at least a smoother one. We thank each and everyone of you who have supported me, us, and most of all HIM in the last 365 days and together we will see what Matthew will do in the next 365.....
