365 days of music you need to know...Day 10/365 Everyone knows this album. Everyone. While this song is certainly not obscure, it is definitely an attempt to redeem this album from mediocrity, mostly thanks tho lead single Pour Some Sugar on Me, which is a terrible, terrible, horrible, awful song. Also its topical, because my good friend Regnastic Reggie Smith is playing a full Def Leppard set tonight at the CadieuxCafe Detroit. Rocket, however, sounds a lot like older Def Leppard before they really broke huge, just with a bigger, cleaner production. There is absolutely no reason for the song to be as long as it is, though (note: the album version is 6:37 while this version used for the single and the music video is a mere 4:16), and I wonder what the bands original vision for the track was, as I can only assume that the notoriously egotistical Jeff Mutt Lange, producer-extraordinaire, chopped and screwed this song into what it became on the release. But I digress...this track has it all. Great riff. Great melody. Great beat. Catchy hook. And I truly believe it sounds just as fresh today as it did when I first heard it in 1987. Oh, and everyone knows the drummer only had one arm by the time they recorded this album...he was the weak link before that though, so I dont feel its newsworthy. https://youtube/watch?v=VWg_g7-sIn0
