37 years. There were those at the wedding that said it would never last. Others just thought we were crazy. The one constant is we have always been working towards something. Sometimes at odds other times like a well oiled machine. Always we have proved that we can accomplish anything and everything we put our minds to. This past year Kelly did push it with the tent canvas and we got it done!! Things might take a little longer with each passing year and life is never dull. Each year brings new challenges and some old ones. As I look over the past year what an incredible ride. If someone had told me that 1 class at the Autumn Gold All Breed Horse Show in the fall of 2013 would change our lives - I would have said its just a horse show, been doing them for 35 years. Boxes full of ribbons, cupboards full of trophys, and memories and stories of incredible horses and people that we have been blessed to know along the way. This past year has truly been special. At regular horse shows you really dont get a chance to focus on individuals. Western Dressage changes all that. Each individual pits themselves and their horse against the ideal on a test. Ok reining, cutting, jumping and a number of other disciplines are the same but it is this one that has grabbed us. I had the incredible opportunity to call the tests for many individuals this past year. To watch them improve and overcome and in my small way celebrate with each of them. At clinics we have worked with great people that get it - relax and allow your horse to move the way God intended - a revelation to so many. Each clinic and lesson is not just about how to ride your horse they also involve so many life lessons. It doesnt matter what you are doing how you are living your life affects how the world treats you. Horses just show it bigger. After 37 years I may look a bit different on the outside - earned grey hairs, a few more laugh lines, and yes a few more pounds. On the inside not much has changed. Seeing wonder and miracles, helping wherever I can, looking forward to seeing what Kelly does with the horses (and people) that come through the barn door and adding more life lessons to the incredible library Ive accumulated through the years.
