3nov Bobby Thompson had part of 1 year in the major leagues; that was 1978…he was drafted in the 19th round, 1972, out of high school in Charlotte, NC…he was a low power, high average big speed CF in the minor leagues and the Rangers had hopes of that in the majors, being ever vigilant for that game-changing leadoff-hitting CF, the organizational Great White Whale…he debuted in early April of 1978 and played in his final game in Sept of that year, staying in the majors the entire year…in 64 games and 136 PA he hit .225/.284/634 for an OPS of .634, 3 doubles, 3 triples, 2 HR, 12 RBI, 7-9 in stolen bases, 9 walks, 26 strikeouts…not great, but we’ve seen worse…after the season he was purchased by Sea; they released him toward the end of spring training in 1979…he spent 1979 in Venezuela and 1980 in Mexico and that was his career…he would’ve been 61 today had he not passed on to the next plane in 2011 at 57
