3rd (Mon) A life held fast by the Word Acts 18:5~8 When Silas and Timothy came from Macedonia, Paul devoted himself exclusively to preaching, testifying to the Jews that Jesus was the Christ. (5) What is the walk of faith that abides by God’s will? God gives us the covenant through the Word and perfectly guides us through the fulfillment of the Word. Those who live their lives held fast by the Gospel are not shaken by any difficulties or temptations and can experience the fulfillment of the Word. How can we live a life that is held fast by the Word? 1. Heavenly mandate The heavenly mandate is listening to God’s voice. God is establishing His absolute and perfect plan for us. Those who have received the heavenly mandate do not follow the standards of what to do and what not to do, but live their lives by listening and obeying God’s Word. In the Bible, Paul received God’s calling in Damascus. Although Paul knew a lot about the Word before learning about Jesus Christ, his life was not held fast by the Word so he lived as he pleased. Yet, after experiencing Christ, this very same Paul was held fast by the absolute Word of God and began to live the life of an evangelist. 2. Calling God called us for salvation through the inner calling and gave us an external calling that allows us to discover what we need to do. When Stephen was stoned to death in the Bible, we see that Paul was a witness of this scene. After receiving the heavenly mandate, Paul lamented approving Stephen’s death and realized his calling as a vessel for Gentile missions. 3. Commission Everyone lacks one thing so they live their lives wandering and then, die. We have discovered what the problem of mankind is in Genesis 3, 6, and 11. Thus, it is our commission to share the answer of the covenant of the Gospel that God has given to us and save this age from destruction. People are unaware of God and fall into idolatry, fortunetelling, the New Age culture and other cultures of the darkness, only to die within illness. We must inform them of the reason for this. Also, we must stake our lives and place the greatest value upon the act of saving others through the answer of Jesus Christ.
