3rd Nov, 2013 Match Report, U14s York Division 1, Brooklyn 4-3 Wigginton Grasshoppers Brooklyn U14s secured an important 3 points winning York Division 1 match 4-3 against a good Wigginton Grasshoppers team. Brooklyn were without key midfielder Luke Scott though injury while Jake Ullah returned after missing the last 4 weeks. The Brooklyn captain Andrew Tiffany lost the toss and their opponents choose to play the first half down the slope and with a strong wind behind them. After the opening 10 minutes the game had just settled down, when Brooklyn suffered a set-back. Wigginton were awarded a penalty for a foul just inside the box, but to Brooklyns relief the penalty kick was scuffed and the ball trickled harmlessly wide. Not long after though, the visitors opened the scoring 0-1. The scores were soon level after good work down the left hand side, the ball arrived at Oliver Farrow on the wing whos low cross found Luke Balderson in the box who turned and shot passed the Wigginton keeper, 1-1. It was important for the Brooklyn defence to keep their opponents away from goal who were trying to shoot at any opportunity with the wind behind them and with one such shot Ben Pickering made a good diving save only for the rebound to fall kindly to a Wigginton striker who calmly chipped in a good goal 1-2, which was the score at Half Time. The second half got under way and Brooklyn begun to pick up the pace of the game, 10 minutes later the best passing move of the match involving Jake Ullah and Tom Walsh whos reverse pass to Balderson left him in space, with a good left foot shot beat the Wigginton goal keeper, 2-2. 5 minutes later Brooklyn were in the lead for the first time in the match, and it was Balderson again scoring to completed his hat-trick, 3-2. Brooklyn were now in control of the match and the game looked over following another well taken corner from Tom Richardson, a powerful shot from Balderson was parried by the visitors keeper, the ball landing at the feet of Walsh unmarked one yard out form the goal line for an easy tap in, 4-2. Brooklyn were now in a good position to play-out the remaining 15 minutes, but with 5 minutes left on the clock, Wigginton were awarded a free kick 25 yards out from goal, with a floated kick the Brooklyn keeper was beaten to his right-hand post, 4-3. That was the last of the meaning full action, Full Time 4-3.
