4:33 PM 1/13 - If you believed an inch of snow will fall in the 95 corridor between 6 AM and 10 AM, should you tell anyone? Or just let them find out the natural way... when their car careens off an untreated state or county road? Short range models are showing at least a 6 hour period of snow in the Baltimore & Washington metro areas, with the highest effects in southern counties including Anne Arundel, southern Baltimore and DC. Start time is around 5-6 AM. There are just two problems: 1. The Weather Service suggests there is ample data for a Winter Weather Advisory, but has chosen to let a later shift decide on it. 2. Affected counties that could have accumulating snowfall, as well as the State of Maryland, ARE NOT LIKELY TO PRE-TREAT ROADS if there is NO Advisory in place. Do you see the issue? How quickly can YOUR county salt the roads on short notice? We have about 8-10 hours left until the onset of snow/sleet to arrive at the AM rush - and there is no Advisory. Perhaps we need a repeat of last Tuesday, just for fun? You examine the Forecast Discussion from Sterling and decide what is best for your family or organization, since the it wont be on the evening news tonight. Look at the 5th paragraph, and like the old Football show said, You make the call. Wed give a buffalo nickel if the NWS would just trust the data and take the plunge. 9 million people are waiting... forecast.weather.gov/product.php?site=NWS&issuedby=LWX&product=AFD&format=CI&version=1&glossary=1&highlight=off (Forecaster Foot)
