4:55 am Farm Report She wouldnt go. Nothing we did yesterday - TopicsExpress

4:55 am Farm Report She wouldnt go. Nothing we did yesterday helped us entice Lydia into her stall. We started before leaving for town. Bread soaked in warm milk, donuts, old cheese, none of it worked. We asked nicely, we talked softly and reasonably, we pushed and we pulled. She wouldnt go. It was getting late. Both of us needed to be at the market. I was not prepared for two hours of pleading with a pregnant pig. I looked down at my pants covered in dust and mud. I was a mess. One more try. Lydia was really grumpy. Grumpy pigs are not to be trifled with. The clock was ticking. We had to get to work. She should really be in her stall. Rai and I worked her toward the gate. Again. And then she stopped. Again. We stood quietly. Rai offered her treats. I pushed. Rai got behind her and together we pushed. Suddenly, Lydia spun around and plowed right over me. I was done for the morning. So was Lydia. She went back to the group shelter and laid her grumpy self down. Now I was grumpy. On the way to town, we started calling friends. Mo and Cara agreed to help after work. Great. When we arrived back at the farm, Lydia was still feeling a little grumpy. So was I. We set up a new corridor, called Mo and Cara and set to work attempting to move Lydia. Mo was broken down in town and was unable to attend our barnyard wrestling tournament. But, shell get her chance this morning. Because, Lydia wouldnt go. After two hours of more pushing, more bribery, foot stomping and fence flipping fun, we called it quits. Until this morning. Mo will join us a little later. And we will start all over again. Smart as we farmers think we are, Lydia has the upper hand or rather weight. I woke this morning, feeling like I couldnt move. I know the odds are against us. Our three combined weights do not equal Lydias, so l really hope this pig will want to move. Its going to be tough on the ego if one grumpy, 450 lb. pregnant pig gets the best of us. Again. Darn pig. Im off to the barn. Ill be back later.
