4: Does Sin Bring Glory to God? Romans 3:5 But if our unrighteousness brings out Gods righteousness more clearly, what shall we say? That God is unjust in bringing his wrath on us? (I am using a human argument.) Thoughts for Today: In our passage today Paul anticipates the response of his Jewish audience: If our sin brings glory to God, then what right does God have to judge it? I have always felt this was a very clever argument (in the classroom extra credit might even be granted for creativity). But not in real life. Who among us actually believes we should sin more to demonstrate Gods enormous grace in forgiving us? Could you imagine one of your teenage children coming to you and saying: You knew I would drive the car without permission, therefore you do not have the right to punish me, and besides by forgiving me you truly demonstrate what a wonderful parent you are. If you are anything like me your teenager would have his or her driving privileges suspended for quite some time. Clearly, the Jews were also headed to the wrong conclusion. They might have had a conception of Pauls central theme (salvation by Gods grace) -- unfortunately theyve completely missed Jesus. Questions to Ponder: Without Jesus there is only Gods wrath. I know for some it is a tough concept to embrace, but it is true nonetheless. The fact God knows of our past, present, and future unrighteousness does not mean God is unjust in judging us. It is why He gave us a Savior. He died for us so we may live. Gods love is infinite. Will you accept His grace today?
