4 ESSENTIAL CLOTHING TIPS FOR RECORDING STUDIO (yes , this is important too) Youve booked your voice over or singing gig, marked your calendar and all set to go but lets hold it right there. Little things like jewellery and cologne can really affect how you sound on the mic. Even though you dont have to apply makeup and do your hair pretty, there are things you really need to keep in mind; 1. Avoid perfume or cologne: DO NOT use powerful perfume, cologne, body wash, hand sanitizer or smoke as a matter of fact as a little quantity of these things can wreak havoc on your instrument and respiratory system. 2. Leave your jewelry at home: The microphone is incredibly sensitive. So avoid wearing any kind of jewelry. Whether its bracelets, rings or earrings. Even avoid wearing zippers or buttons that makes sound. All of these will have an effect on the voice quality so avoid them like a plague. 3. Choose quiet, comfortable clothing: What you decide to wear is important. Wear clothes that are comfy and doesnt make noise when you move. Cotton is a perennial favourite as the fabric allows you full access to your breath. Stay away from fabrics such as polyester, nylon and anything that gives you discomfort or creates noise. 4. Wear flats or soft-soled shoes: Wear sensible footwear. We advise you to do as youll be standing a lot during your recording session and uncomfortable shoes can really affect your voice in an adverse way. Dont fret over your height too much or able to reach the microphone. There will be an engineer to help you with that so just slip into flats or soled shoes which are beneficial in the studio environment.
