4. Express your own beliefs in gentle ways. Realize that religion, or non-religion, like everything else, is a personal choice, and the wise person won’t wield it over others, pressing a “conversion moment.” Just as I hope you respect the “space” surrounding each of us, let your characters do the same. No matter what belief they embrace, let it be theirs alone until, and only if, broached in some natural, unforced way. No one wants a bible-thumping preacher (whatever the religion) next to them on a plane, or in a book, for that matter.
