4-One Retro Corner - Another World Where many video games stress their storylines, Eric Chahis Another World effortlessly gave you a story-driven adventure and without a single word. Another world is a cinematic action platformer, released in 1992 for various platforms and has recently been ported to #PSN, #Xbox Live and #WiiU virtual console. Another World had you playing as Lester, a scientist who is caught up in an experiment gone wrong. This transports him to another world. On this alien planet, Lester has to fight for his very survival against the local wildlife. Who can forget the beast on the opening level? Its not just the fauna Lester has to deal with, an alien race is also out to get you. Resulting in Lester being captured early on. After being attacked you find Lester in a cage along with an alien traitor who you name Buddy. Along with the help of Buddy, its your mission to escape the alien prison. And so your adventure truly begins. Eric Chahi has listed that Frank Millers work and Dragons Lair as some of his inspirations. Another World may seem obscure to modern gamers as it had no HUD of any kind and zero hand holding compared to modern games. Its introduction often included in hardest first levels of all time lists. Another World does have a legacy in a sense. It inspired Kojimas Metal Gear Solid series and Fumito Uedas Ico in the way the story was told. It also had a spiritual sequel in Eric Chahis Heart of Darkness. As I mentioned before, Another World isnt exactly easy. Many one hit deaths await you(they are funny though) and the checkpoints arent well placed. However Another World is a wonderful game and an artistic masterpiece. So why are you reading this? Go on, get downloading! Words by William Bargery
