Have you ever wonderful what characteristics or qualities they expect to see on stage in contestants? Have you ever wished to be able to read the judges minds? Have you ever wished for feedback on how you can improve in a beauty pageant for next time? If you have answered yes to at least one of these questions then this is for you! In today’s blog I will discuss what the Judges are looking for in Beauty Queens. Read on; 1) Confidence: Judges are looking for Confidence in winners. A winner that believes in herself, a woman/girl that can walk with her shoulders back, keep her chin up and give good eye contact. Confidence is KING in the pageant world. The last thing that a Judge wants to do is put a girl through that portrays very little confidence as they know that the winner will have to face crowds at events, make appearances, speak in front of camera and represent the brand so they can not possibly choose someone without confidence to do this as the stakes are too high and there is so much more criticism and backlash that can come with a Beauty Queen that reigns without confidence. “Confident people do not concentrate on their weaknesses; they develop and maximize their strengths”. Joyce Meyer 2) Charisma: I believe that Charisma is Queen in the Pageant World! Charisma is all about being magnetic, charming, and captivating! You have to be able to make the judges and the audience fall in love with you. You can do this through your smile, your body language, your confidence, by the dress/clothes you wear and by the colours you wear. I believe that charisma is what celebrities have! It’s that Cameron Diaz smile, it’s those poses that you see Kim Kardashian do on the red carpet! It’s the ability to make people say ‘Wow who is she, she is amazing and beautiful’. Two ways to increase your charisma 1) Wear the colours that bring out your eyes, skin tone and wear clothes that are flattering for your figure) 2) Own the stage! Really light up the stage with your poses, your beauty and your quiet confidence. “Charisma is also that special quality of magnetism that each person has and that each person uses to a certain degree. You have a special charisma to the people who look up to you, who respect and admire you, the members of your family and your friends and coworkers. Whenever and wherever a person feels a positive emotion toward another, he imbues that person with charisma, or attractiveness“. - Brian Tracy 3) Excellent Interview Technique: Judges are looking for contestants that can nail the interview round! There is no time for rehearsals on stage. They are not looking for weak speeches or girls or women that don’t know what to say to questions and they are not interested people that haven’t done any research. So make sure you spend at least 30 minutes a day revising and practicing your interview technique. You should spend time going through questions that you know that judges tend to ask such as ‘ - Where do you see yourself in the next 3-5 years? - Who are you most inspired by and why? - Why did you decide to enter this pageant? - If you won 5 million Naira what would you do with the money? - If you could live anywhere in the world which would it be and why? To improve your interview technique: 1) Avoid ‘um’, ‘ah’ and ‘er’ whenever it’s your turn to make your speech. 2) Don’t answer questions too quickly, but also avoid giving long-winded answers also. 4) Master the Walk: Practice your walk and perfect your catwalk! Because the judges are really looking for someone that can really wow the audience with a great walk! Someone that has potential to break into the modelling world. Many girls have lost the opportunity to win a Beauty Pageant and this is based on a bad walk. You should spend at least 30 minutes a day mastering your walk. You should practice with low heels and high heels in front of a full length mirror. You should also work on your poses and never think ‘oh I know that already’. Keep working on your poses and walk so that you can be at the top of your game ready to stand out amongst the other girls/women on stage! You can have all the beauty in the world, wonderful clothes and a great personality but if you don’t walk well the judges will have no choice but to mark you down.
