4 more militants killed in Keran; high alert on LoC Northern Command Chief in Kashmir SHABIR IBN YUSUF Srinagar, Oct 5: Army Saturday said they have killed four more militants in Keran Sector of frontier district Kupwara, rising the toll to seven in two days, even as high alert has been sounded at Line of Control (LoC). General Officer Commanding (GOC)- in-Chief Northern Command, Lt General Sanjiv Chachra, Saturday visited two Rashtriya Rifles (RR) Sector Headquarters in North Kashmir and is scheduled to visit Shalbato Sunday. “Four more militants were killed today and the operation is on,” Defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia told Greater Kashmir, adding that the site of encounter is about 25 kilometers west of Shalbato, where a stand-off between Army and militants is continuing for past two weeks. He said that Army has recovered 6 AK 47 Rifles and 4 Pistols. An Army official said the soldiers of 12 Garhwal Regiment observed a movement of around eight suspected people in Doomari Gali Farkein in Keran Sector during last night. He said that the soldiers asked them to stop, however they opened fire on the Army. “In the ensuing gunfight four indentified militants were killed,” the official said adding gunfight continued for some time. The official said that the gunfight has taken place near LoC fencing. “They were intercepted soon after they cut the fence and entered our territory,” he said adding that operation in the area is going on. “Others might have returned and combing operation is in progress in the area.” Army has sounded high alert on the LoC in north Kashmir. To flush out militants, if any, Army has started combing operations in the areas close to LoC. “ Ambushes have been established at known infiltration routes and the forests are being searched,” the official said adding that patrolling in the hinterland has also been intensified. The areas where operations near LoC have been launched include Kanthwali, Warsun forests of Trehgam, Rashionpora and Budnambal. Army Friday said that they killed three unidentified militants in Kulung area of Keran Sector.
