4 times as bright as the original Litepanels 1 x 1? Prokit has taken delivery of a new 1 x 1 LED panel light that is 4 times as bright as the original, market leading, Litepanels 1x1. Its the new ASTRA from ...... Litepanels. It is already attracting fans: Cinematographer, Kees Van Oostrum, ASC and gaffer William Russell used several Litepanels fixtures, including the new ASTRA 1x1 Bi-Color, on the second season of The Fosters*. “I’m a big user of Litepanels fixtures,” said Van Oostrum. “LED lighting gives me the opportunity to work very fast, and it’s very easy to control the light. The Fosters is a traditional stage show, but I still like to use a lot of LED lighting. I was able to add the ASTRA for the last episode of this season, which was fantastic.” The ASTRA 1x1 offers a light output up to four-times brighter than the company’s traditional 1x1, high CRI, and user selectable active or passive cooling modes. Designed with premium quality, surface mount LEDs paired with custom designed TIR optics, the innovative daylight to tungsten tunable color model is the first in Litepanel’s new innovative and affordable line of ASTRA panels. “With the ASTRA, I graduated into a much better light that I will be able to use in many areas where I couldn’t use an LED before,” continues Van Oostrum. “The ASTRA can replace the 575w HMI in many situations because it has an output that is so much brighter than the 1x1. It really saves a lot of time on set compared to a regular light. It goes up quickly, it’s easy to rig and adjust, and it can dim. “The ASTRA is beautifully executed. I love that it can be battery powered, so it’s totally independent from regular power sources, and that there’s a read-out on the back (optional accessory required), so you know exactly what you’re doing color-wise and intensity-wise. Litepanels made really great improvements with this light,” he adds. *ABC Family produce The Fosters in the USA. It is a popular drama about a multi-ethnic family of foster and biological kids being raised by two mothers.
