4 year old: they dont like me because im Black. 1. who told the 4 year old she was Black 2. who made fun of her 3. who gave her the idea that the teasing was due to her being Black This entire scenario is ridiculous. Four years old is entirely too young to even deal with this. We all want to hold hands and sing kum baya, but 4 year old Black kids are having to do with racism these days? How is this possible? I didnt have to deal with racism, UNTIL I came back to the US and went to an all white private boarding school. I was made aware that I was Black when I was 9, by a racist maid. (after that my family never hired a non-Black maid, because the maid had said racist words to me, which I did not know.) This 4 year old is so disturbed by the racism, that shes crying hysterically. This means she was made to understand, and understand deeply, what was going on. Imagine if someone said something to you that was racist in a foreign language. It wouldnt even matter to YOU because you dont even comprehend what is going on. But, if they say it in English, and its someone you know, then, and only then, would it bring you to tears. I dont think its quite time to hold hands and sing kum baya just yet. [P.S. the mother that filmed the daughter had tried to tell the school this several times before and the school didnt believe her. So this time she filmed it.] I hope she pulled her daughter from the school and put her in an all Black school. The important thing is to get the child in a supportive environment, not a racist environment.
