4 years ago today was a busy day: I buried my father, met my sister and nephew for the first time, the same day my grandmother, (on my moms side), Greta dies. Id only been in Sweden for 24 hours, Im convinced she waited until I got there to pass. There is a song that has followed me and my dad around since his passing and its the main song from his funeral, Somewhere over the rainbow by Israel IZ Kamakawiwoole, chosen, single handedly, by his wife Margareta. When I got back to the states from the two funerals and finally sat down to finish the DVD me and my dad watched the night he passed, We had 6 hours together from the time he landed til he passed, I hear that the sound track is Somewhere over the rainbow, by IZ... Two years go by, Im going though a tough break up, standing outside, asking aloud: Am I doing the right thing? Immediately a car drives by playing, you guessed it, Somewhere over the rainbow, by IZ... So last night at a BBQ with great friends, the the host goes to turn on some music in the other room, first song that comes on is Somewhere over the rainbow, by IZ.. I look down at my watch and its 20 past midnight in Sweden and its the anniversary of my dads funeral... I love you dad and I would not be the man I am today if it was not for you. You took me out of the northern small town living and showed me there is a whole world out there of culture, arts, music, people and good experiences. You introduced me to Bob Marley and the whalers by playing Uprising. You where a cool cat. Keep looking after me..
