40-4Campaign CPP Benefit Reduction up dates. Military/RCMP Veterans Against CPP Benefit Reduction at age 65 Or sooner if Disable “ For immediate distribution, including Face Book and Twitter “ To: All Veterans and Supporters Info: Mr. Peter Stoffer, MP Opposition Veterans Affairs critic Distribution List September 5, 2013 Re: Campaign CPP Benefit Reduction up dates. Dear Veterans, We hope that all had a nice summer! September has arrived and we wish to advise that the CPP Benefit Reduction campaign continues. John Labelle, Campaign Coordinator, Roger Boutin, Public Relation Coordinator and Reina MacNeil translator will continue to vigorously address our CPP Claw Back issue. Recently, Roger and I attended a most productive meeting with Mr. Peter Stoffer, MP with more information to follow during the next session of Parliament. Sequence of events: • On May 5, 2010, for the fourth time, Conservative MP’s were directed to vote against Bill C-201. The bill count was successful and the final vote recorded was 149 yeas and 134 nays. The speaker of the House of Commons declared that Bill C-201 was carried, but then discharged it from the agenda because Prime Minister Harper refused to request a Royal recommendation. Bill C-201 died on the order table. • Prior to being elected Prime Minister, In the 2005 Federal election campaign Mr. Harper, MP stated: “When a motion passes the democratic elected majority of the House of Commons, the Government shall honour that motion”! (Hansard 2005) Once elected he quickly changed his mind! • During the month of May, letters have been sent to all Political Leaders asking them to declare that in their election platform they will identify and pledge to restore Military/RCMP Benefits. Regretfully, thus far only Mr. Thomas Mulcair, MP, NDP Leader of the Opposition, has provided us with a signed letter supporting Veterans benefits to be restored. We will continue to seek the support of other Federal Leaders. • As of 31 March 2012, the net assets held on behalf of the Canadian Forces pension plan indicated that the Veterans Annuity plan totalled $56.642 billion. A total of $56.642 billion is more than sufficient surplus funds available to terminate the CPP benefit reduction programme. Only 39,229 Annuitants were 65 or older. Only $2.6 billion was paid in Annuity under the CFSA for the year 2012. Is this what Canada believes today? Federal Lawyers stated in a court of Law That: Quote: Veterans are essentially no different than any other citizen collecting other social benefits (welfare, unemployment, etc) and we are owed nothing more. Compare the following discrepancies: • Loss of Spousal income opportunities as a result of numerous operational moves, leading to a loss of Spousal CPP benefits; • Veterans have served far abroad on numerous 24/7, 16 hour days without overtime compensation; • Veterans faced dangerous conditions, health hazards, extend Family separation, with elevated level of stress. They were committed to an unlimited liability; • Senators, Politicians spouse survivors benefit is 66% of the members annuity while CF Members spouse is 50%; • The Supplementary Death Benefit (SDB) for Public Service employees is $10,000 while its only $5,000 for Forces personnel. Canada’s Heroes and their Families should be treated with Dignity and never be left to walk alone! Sincerely, John Labelle Veterans Annuity Campaign Coordinator Support the dignity of Veterans [email protected]
