40 YEARS AGO TODAY Jan 15, 1974 - Happy Days premiered on TV. An American television sitcom that originally aired from January 15, 1974, to September 24, 1984. The series presents an idealized vision of life in the mid-1950s to mid-1960s United States. The show was a spin off of the 1972, George Lucas film, American Graffiti, which starred Ron Howard and which became one of the top-grossing films of 1973. Happy Days itself spawned the hit television shows Laverne & Shirley and Mork & Mindy (a then-unknown Robin Williams). The leather jacket worn by The Fonz; Henry Winkler, during the series hangs in the Smithsonian Institution. Happy 40th Birthday to all of the gang down at Als Diner.
