40 days of Lenten Devotions: Day 2: Thursday After Ash Wednesday Before he rooster crows twice, you will deny me three times. Mark 14:30 Peter had thought he would never fall away from Jesus. But Jesus prediction of Peters denials of him would come true, of course. A rooster would indeed crow and thus convict Peter of his sin. We, like Peter, have good intentions. But in the heat of the moment, when push comes to shove, when we are called on the carpet about our faith, we crumble under the pressure. Like the roosters crow, the Law convicts us, and our only alternative is to turn to Christ for mercy. In return, Christ calls, Youre forgiven! Like Peter, Lord, I weep bitterly for disowning you and not defending you. By your grace, give me the conviction to speak boldly of you. Amen.
