40 months ago I was asked to take on the role of Health Minister, my wife who works in healthcare was far from keen on me doing it but I said yes. I knew that it would be immensely difficult and challenging and it was all of that and more. It was also incredibly interesting and rewarding and we are privileged to have a world class health service. While keyboard warriors and media have had plenty to say, the voices I listen to are the dozens of people I meet day in day out who tell me the real stories, mostly good occasionally bad. The vast majority of the public appreciate the service. I didnt leave a perfect health service, far from it, but I did leave it in considerably better shape than when I took over. My best wishes to Jim, thanks to my party for the opportunity and all those who encouraged me over the years.
