40 years ago… NYE 1974. I was in Boston with Rich Gibbs, Joe Berardi and Mickey Wells. We just moved their crib from Symphony Road to Mrs. Kims house in Cambridge. We went to the Combat Zone in Roxbury to The One OClock Lounge (great neon sign) for New Years Eve. There was a quartet of old African-American men playing live for the illegal Taiwanese strippers walking the bar tops. We had our backs to the China Dolls to watch the old guys: minimal drum kit, acoustic double bass, Hammond C-4 organist and a hollow-body guitarist a-la George Benson (in the future). They were just great. The China Dolls were angry that we werent paying attention to their gravy train needs and descended upon us. I dont know about the other guys, but I quickly rid myself of mine by asking about her fathers recipe for curing Yunnan-style hams. ------------ The song posted below was from the summer.
