41 year old ice cream lady iso peace on earth I was recently at a place where grown-ups had to write down their age and a woman (I’m guessing near my age) refused. I was a little surprised….. I didn’t know that “never ask a woman her age” was still a thing. I’m not going to lie….those 5 magic words…. “Can I see your ID?” cause a happy tremble and warm fuzzies that melt my dreamsicles. But, while I am unashamedly saying happy 41st birthday to me today…..I feel more like a wise 29. So, without further adieu, an ice cream lady to-do list for her upcoming year: Do be an “adequate parent” more and a super parent less. Do love your ridiculously loud laugh….use inhaler as necessary. Do eat what you love and then move that body. Do drink water. Do drink a little bourbon. Do hug. Do allow for wonder, be wonderstruck on occasion. Do let people have their own truth. Do take opportunities to befriend humans who are uncomfortably outside of your very small circle. Do forgive yourself and others with reckless abandon. Do dance alone. Do graciously accept an invitation to dance with another. Do recognize that taking care of you IS taking care of the kids. Do sing the moon song because you love it so. Do know that awesome, tender and ass-kickin are all you, draw upon them as needed in creating some teeny weeny social change, working with folks in poverty and insisting on social justice. Do maintain a gentle smile. Do consider the miracle of your next breath at least 12 times this year. Do say one kind thing about your face or body or mind every day. Do feel disappointed or anger or stress or loss and then return to faith, faith, faith. Do cry. Do notice. Do savor. Do love big. Do put a little chocolate on it, Mrs Delicious
