42 ISAC anglers stood firm against the elements during Round 10 of the ISAC Solent League which was fished at Eastney Beach, Portsmouth from 7pm until midnight on Saturday 2nd November 2013 in very windy conditions. High tide was set at 10:27pm at 4.7 metres perfect for the venue. The match was moved from our programmed venue of Stokes Bay at the request of the Angling Trust who wished to host their own event at that beach on the same night. Pegs for our match were placed in 2 zones from the Toilet Block peg 1, back just past St George Road peg 60, at a good 30 paces, allowing for casting in the force 7 westerly winds which prevailed throughout the evening. 38 entrants (90%) registered 10 different species of fish at the scales for a total match weight of 180lb 3ozs, 81.734kg, the top match weight of the season. The 164 sizeable fish were represented by 2 Bass, 1 Codling, 6 Dab, 93 Dogfish, 1 Flounder, 33 Pouting, 6 Rockling, 5 Silver Eel, 1 Smoothhound and 17 Whiting. The 8 Top-Ups (undersized fish granted 1 ounce, 28g and returned to the water alive) were represented by 4 Bass and 4 Whiting. The notable catches included a 10¾oz, 0.304g Dab for JEFF FISK, 15¼oz, 0.432g Whiting for MARK VINTER, 2lb 4¾oz, 1.041kg Dogfish and 1lb 6oz, 0.623g Pouting for JUSTIN ROULLAND. The competition also produced a total cash payout of £550 awarded in 9 cash awards. INDIVIDUAL COMPETITION Winner of the match was MIKE BROWN from Southampton who from peg 21 in Zone A placed opposite the Esplanade Gardens, landed 9 Dogfish, 2 Pouting, 1 Whiting and a 63cm Smoothhound for 1lb 12ozs, to record the top weight in the competition at 17lb 7ozs, 7.909kg. This was Mike’s 2nd ISAC match victory and won him the top cash prize of £120 with the r10 ISAC Match Winners trophy and certificate. Runner-up in the match was DANNY MOGRIDGE from Fareham who from peg 52 in zone B landed 6 species of fish including 1 Bass, 1 Codling of 2lb 13¾ozs, 1.296kg the HFOTM, (winning an ISAC rig wallet filled with goodies donated by sponsor SOLENT TACKLE) 3 Dogfish, 1 Pouting, 1 Silver Eel and 1 Whiting for a zone winning weight of 10lb 8½ozs, 4.776kg earning him a 3rd consecutive £100 cash prize. Third place on the night went to the rod of RUSSELL PRESTON from Bristol who from peg 16 in zone A landed 9 Dogfish and 5 Pouting for a total weight of 16lb 4½ozs, 7.385kg winning him a £75 cash prize. Both zone winners won bonus prizes donated by league sponsor TRONIXPRO. LEAGUE CHAMPIONSHIP MIKE BROWN from Southampton enhanced his position at the top of the table with his first match victory of the season and now leads on 45 points and 30lb 14¼ozs, 14.011kg in total weight. RUSSELL PRESTON from Bristol retained his 2nd place position overall on 50 points with 30lb 2ozs, 13.664kg in weight. NICK MAY from Hastings also retained his 3rd place position on 58 points and 19lb 9¼ozs, 8.880kg in total weight.
