42 years ago this evening, I was hit by a car on Ecorse Road in Taylor MI. I do not remember much about that evening, other than it was snowing heavily. I do understand that it was a pretty close call for me (as I was struck by the car and then flew about 15-20 feet or so). injuries included a skull fracture, fear of internal bleeding (only way to check back then was to open me up) as well as a broken leg. I was in a semi coma for several days (I remember waking up and seeing Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer playing on a tv in the hospital room). I remained in the hospital until mid to late January 1973, then was released with a full body cast (left foot to top of chest area). Later that Spring, getting around pretty well with my cast (no crutches even....it was a sight) my mom asked me to clean my room (I received an abundance of sympathy gifts for Christmas 1972.....so the room was cluttered). I used my dads high intensity flash light from his camera, while under my bed....it popped and caught the bed then my bedroom on fire. later yet, I hit my cast against a wall and broke the cast in the leg area. Doctors feared I had re-broken my leg (instead they took the cast off early as my leg was healed). For sure was an interesting time in my life (as well for my family). memory lane is an interesting avenue.
