44th DAGCO-PGCA Davao Annual Assembly and Conference-Workshop on September 16 – 18, 2013 to be held at the Davao Doctors College Business Center, General Malvar St., Davao City August 7, 2013 ____________________ ____________________ ____________________ Dear Colleague, Welcome to our 44th DAGCO-PGCA Davao Annual Assembly and Conference-Workshop on September 16 – 18, 2013 to be held at the Davao Doctors College Business Center, General Malvar St., Davao City on the theme “Fostering A Safe, Healthy and Protective Learning Environment.” In May 2012, the Department of Education promulgated the Child Protection Policy to ensure that our schools promote and provide supportive learning environments where all students can expect to feel safe. Its aim is to assist all schools and their communities to effectively prevent and respond to any act of child abuse, exploitation, violence, discrimination, bullying and other forms of abuse. The framework clearly underscores our role, as members of the school community, in fulfilling this important responsibility, thus the theme for this year’s assembly which shall be articulated in the following workshops: 1) Breaking the Culture of Bullying and Disrespect; 2) Managing Stress: Attaining Balance and Optimal Well-being; 3) Helping Children Cope with Fears, Stress and Trauma. The conference-workshop fee is Three Thousand Pesos (Php 3,000) for members and Three Thousand Three Hundred (Php 3,300) for non-members, inclusive of workshop kit and materials, certificate of participation, three (3) lunches, and six (6) snacks. Participants shall attend two (2) whole day workshops from the three listed above. It will provide the best practices and successful strategies to overcome bullying and disrespect. Facilitator: Justina P. Bajo, Ph.D., RGC, RP Co-facilitator: Mary Ann Rose C. Bartolo, MAGC, RGC Workshop 2: Managing Stress: Attaining Balance and Optimal Well-being Every individual experiences stress in life which could either have a positive or negative impact on him/her. The workshop aims to help participants to better understand and manage the power and influence of stress in their lives and strive towards balance and optimal well-being. Identifying the different stressors and how they affect one’s life will be tackled. Strategies to enhance skills in managing stress will also be provided. Facilitators: Lea F. Suarez, MAGC, RGC Guidance Counselor, Francisco Bangoy National High School Workshop 3: Helping Children Cope with Fears, Stress and Trauma The workshop will help counselors, teachers and educators to better understand how fears, phobias and stress develop in children and acquire skills on how these children can be assisted in successfully coping with the fears and stress. Specific activities that focus on assisting children cope with extant fears and stress, fear prevention and stress reduction will be provided. Facilitator: Benedicta O.
