46 years ago today, July 29, 1969, while in the Gulf of Tonkin off the coast of Veitnam, a rocket was accidentaly launched from a plane that was sitting on the flight deck of supercarrier USS Forestal. The resulting fires and explosions would kill 134 members of her crew and injure another 161. It would be 18 hours before the fires were declared out. 10 years and 4 months later she would become my home for the next 4-1/2 years. During her active lifetime, she went through hell but she gave as good as she got. She was a good ship. She always got me home.
