460 Americans (the vast majority black men) were shot and killed in legal intervention by the police last year. 30 police officers were killed by gunfire in 2013. 30! Nation wide! Policing is not even in the top 10 anymore for most dangerous jobs. The excuse of the militarization of police in the face of their own safety is a fallacy. There is a clear imbalance and broken system in place if this is justified. The firing of a gun at a citizen should be the absolute last resort, not the first at the first sign of danger. There are countless ways to incapacitate a man that doesnt involve a gun. Police should be hyper diligently trained in ethics, cognitive quickness and alternative counter measures to violent aggression. Killing a person is far too common now and too brazenly excused and accepted by police agencies nation wide.
