4TH SUMMIT OF THE NORTHERN CORRIDOR INTEGRATION PROJECTS, KAMPALA ON 20TH FEBRUARY 2014 Uganda will be hosting the 4th Northern Corridor Integration Projects Summit in Kampala on 20th February 2014. The main focus will be to share the developments on the projects being fast tracked and propose the best way forward. The Northern Corridor countries of Kenya, Rwanda, Burundi and South Sudan will be participating in the Summit. Also invited is the United Republic of Tanzania as member of the EAC. The Summit will be preceded by a meeting of senior officials on 18th February and of Ministers on 19th February 2014. During the meetings, reports will be presented on achievements registered in the various sectors since the last Summit in Kigali on 20th October 2013. To be discussed will be reports from various Sectors coordinated by the three countries namely; Uganda, Kenya and Rwanda. Uganda will present on: - Railway Development - Oil Refinery Development - ICT - Political Federation Kenya will report on: • Energy generation • Pipeline construction • Human resource capacity building in specialized skills for Railway, Energy, oil refinery and ICT development. • Commodity exchange. Rwanda will report on: • Single Customs Territory • East African Tourism Visa • Use of ID/Voter/Student ID cards as travel documents • Security cooperation • Airspace Management Among the highlights of the 4th Summit will be the official launch of: (i) The East African Tourist Visa and (ii) Use of National Identity/Voter/Student Cards as travel documents which started on 1st January 2014 The Heads of State will also consider establishment of the Security Pact. It should be recalled that during their last Summit in Kigali, the Single Customs Territory was launched and became operational on 1st January 2014.
