4th Term Saints Vs Crows The last quarter of AFL football for Lenny hayes. Scrappy fighting for the ball early in the term and it really has been played between the two fifty metre arcs. The crows finally got clear air and as they brought it in toward their goal before chips punched it through, but in his return kick in was swallowed by crouch for the crows who brought up his third goal for the season. The crows headed back inside fifty before Wright fought the ball clear and found Ross and in turn Steven before another turn over. Both sides have come out to win the last quarter of their season and the crows look the goods as Jacobs won the tap to Sloane who snapped and jagged his equal best with 3 for the day. There is very little to like about the style of play in the last quarter but there is a lot to like about the desperation shown. The most unlikely looking snap from fifty by Smith for Adelaide saw a very lucky major brought up. Joey Lenny and Rooey all teamed up but couldn’t convert what would have been a fairytale goal. Rutten lifted for the last term but the ball spilled free through Sebastian Ross and on to Joey who kicked on the run for 6 of the finest. With Mackay taking a mark in the pocket but with a season tally of 1 goal 16 he was no certainty and he added to his behinds missing across to the right. The contested ball was very willing but not clean and not direct. We fought the ball along the outer wing to what was almost a Rooey mark but should have been a Rooey free but was neither and sent back out the wing to Walker for a goal on the run. The centre clearance was immediate and back to the crows who found Eddie betts in the pocket who kicked truly for his fifth for the day. The scrappiest struggle for possession at the top of the crows goal square went through three or four sets of hands before landing in Kerridges hands from what may or may not have been a throw and he kicked truly to stretch the lead to 74 points. Adelaide went straight back inside fifty before Delaney found Roberton and in turn Armitage and a forced boundary throw in. Seb Ross kicked from fifty for a behind where irony saw Rooey mark it behind the line. The only delivery of value came from behind the score line. The instant delivery back through the corridor saw Betts take a mark forty out before giving it off by hand to a running Rutten who kicked truly for a major with what may yet be his last kick after kicking three straight with his first three kicks in his career. Hayesy sat alone in our forward line but we simply couldn’t give him the fairytale goal. The crows home by 79 points. One mans opinion – our best for the day – Steven, Fisher, Ross, Hayes, Shenton, Jones and Armitage Lenny Hayes in a snapshot 3 x Best and Fairest 3 x All Australian 2010 Norm Smith Medallist 3rd in 2009 Brownlow Medal All time tackle holder in AFL history
