5.0 3RD QUARTER GROWTH Good news: America’s economy grew at a rate of 5.0 percent in July, August and September. That number builds on a 4.6 percent growth rate in the 2nd Quarter of 2014. And it offers the best rationale yet for the unexpected spike in employment in November when 321,000 jobs were added. Perhaps, the U.S. finally has hit the escape velocity required to break free from the enormous economic gravity produced by the Great Recession. Perhaps, employers will go on a hiring binge in the New Year and millions of Americans will find jobs to match their skills. And, perhaps, Santa Claus will bring me that 67 Mustang convertible Ive always wanted. But economic growth without a persistent and dramatic decline in real unemployment is ephemeral. And so far real unemployment has not budged much. So, on this Christmas Eve, lets leave a steaming cup of coffee and 5.0 cookies out for Santa. And then lets work together in the coming year so that by next Christmas 10 million unemployed and underemployed Americans will have full-time jobs paying wages that can feed their families. Now that would be an economic growth package worth placing under everyones tree. Merry Christmas! Rick Sloan UCubed
