5-25-14 Memorial Day Sunday Today is a day set aside to honor all those who made the ultimate sacrifice for this Country. Do Something Scripture reading: James 2:14-26 If one has been truly transformed by God they will look and act differently. They will be a reflection of Christ. Faith has to be active. In Andy Andrews book, The Travelers Gift, he outlines 7 principles of how to live a Godly life by telling a story of a couple who lives differently than the rest of the world. Then a second book, The Summit tells the story of the 74 year old widower who asks the question, Now what God? Thru time travel, the widower has the chance to meet legendary past God followers at a Summit. It all boils down to Do Something. Jesus modeled doing something every day of His life here on earth. He made visible by what He did for us --- dying on a cross. Scripture passages: Luke6:30, John 15:13, Matthew 28: 19-20 If the choices you make are not God honoring, where is your faith? Did people see Jesus in you this past week? Faith In Action is a organization about doing something. The military personnel being honored this weekend did something. How about you? What are you being called to do? Little Owen Nankervis went to his dad and Steve did something. Can you see how God blessed that, yes? CHILDRENS SERMON What is happening this weekend? (Memorial Day.) What does that mean? (It is to honor our veterans) No, there is another holiday for that -- Veterans Day. This day is set aside for those who died in battle for this Country. They made the ultimate sacrifice similar to what Jesus did when He gave His life to save each of us. Have you seen the VFW members standing outside of stores selling poppies? (Yes) The money raised thru donations helps veterans. What does the color red symbolize? (Love) Yes. The love these fallen heroes had for this Country and the love God has for us. Remember freedom is not free. DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT - Chris Kafer I have been noticing how busy the birds are building nests and how the earth is coming to life. I love lilacs and their fragrance is starting to fill the air. It reminds me that we are here for only a short while and are we living so we leave a perfume for others to notice? We started as a lump of clay, dirt and the Masters Hands are molding us into something useful and beautiful.
