5.6 million students to benefit from text books As part of NDC 2012 manifesto to promise to provide free textbooks and also review all costs currently burdening parent. Page 17 • Government on Tuesday unveiled textbooks and teaching guides to benefit 5.6 million pupils in 23,000 primary and junior high schools across the country. • The textbooks worth $50,000,000 would ensure that each child gets a textbook in core subjects such as English, Mathematics and Science. • This will prevent the situation where two or more children in primary and junior high schools shared one text book will be a thing of the past. • Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang, Minister of Education, expressed the hope that basic school teachers would take advantage of the provision of adequate textbooks and perform their duties very well. • The project is funded by the Government of Ghana and support from the UK.
