5 CHELSEA PLAYERS WHO JOSE MOURINHO COULD SELL Chelsea’s fans - TopicsExpress

5 CHELSEA PLAYERS WHO JOSE MOURINHO COULD SELL Chelsea’s fans may be excited by the return of Jose Mourinho, but you can bet that there are some figures in the Stamford Bridge dressing room who are less enthused. A duty for any new manager at a club is to get rid of some of the deadwood in the squad. Mourinho is sure to be drawing up a list of the players he can dispense with in order to add to his transfer and salary budgets. Here’s our guess at five Chelsea players that he will want to get rid of. 5. Fernando Torres Despite just having enjoyed his most successful season at Chelsea since joining the club, the omens do not look good for Fernando Torres under Jose Mourinho. It has already being reported that Mourinho will not allow Romelu Lukaku leave on loan again and that his main transfer target is Edin Dzeko. It all points to Mourinho looking to employ a Drogba-like presence up front. Throw Demba Ba into the mix and it doesn’t look promising for Torres. 4. John Obi Mikel The defensive midfielder’s Chelsea career was just starting as Mourinho’s was coming to an end. Signed for £16m, it’s fair to say that Mikel hasn’t made the progress that was expected of him as a youngster. Now 26, Mikel will face competition from Michael Essien who is expected to follow Mourinho back from Real Madrid. The centre of Chelsea’s midfield often looked like their weakest are last season and any reinforcements could see the Nigerian sacrificed. 3. Marco Marin The German attacking midfielder was the odd man out last season, as he competed for game time against Juan Mata, Eden Hazard, Oscar and Victor Moses. In all, Marin made just 15 appearances. There would however, be no shortage of takers from the Bundesliga should Marin be made available. Still only 24, the German international has 16 caps and could attract a decent fee. 2. David Luiz There have been rumours that Mourinho doesn’t see Luiz as part of his plans. He certainly doesn’t fit the profile of the type of reliable central defenders that Mourinho likes to use, so it would seem that the Brazilian’s future lies either as a midfielder, or at another club. Luiz is a player who could command a major fee and could boost Mourinho’s spending power. He might not be Jose’s cup of tea, but it’s easy to imagine Luiz in Barcelona’s back four. 1. John Terry The former England captain made only 14 Premier League appearances last season. He has only one year left on his contract and there are rumours that Monaco are considering taking him to Ligue 1. If that offer were forthcoming, it would leave Mourinho in an interesting position. To receive a transfer fee for the 32-year old, could be something of a blessing considering that he is one of the club’s biggest earners. It would also spare the club a similar contract saga to the one that dogged Frank Lampard last season. It’s also rumoured that John Terry was instrumental in Mourinho’s original departure from Chelsea. They are reputedly now on friendly terms, but revenge could still prove sweet and would make a huge statement of intent for Jose’s brave new world
