5 DAYS TO ZERO Day Four: STIGMA What is Stigma? Stigma is a set of negative and often unfair beliefs that a society or group of people have about something. When It comes to HIV, stigma is one of the most impactful side effects of the disease. People who have HIV are often thought of as less than, dirty, dangerous, promiscuous, and irresponsible for contracting the disease. However, this is far from the truth. Put yourself in someone else’s shoes, how would you feel if these attributes and beliefs were directed at you simply because of your health condition? People who are HIV positive deserve the respect and decency afforded to all people. It is up to YOU to step up and STOP the STIGMA. When you Stop the STIGMA, you Stop the Hate, Stop the Ignorance, Stop the Shame, and Stop the Spread of HIV. By putting a face to HIV, were able to see HIV + individuals as real people, with real emotions and real hearts. Watch as these individuals talk about their journey with HIV and the stimga.
