5 OCLOCK NEWS UPDATE WITH Orange The Inspector General of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura has summoned the striking taxi drivers for a meeting. Various taxi drivers’ associations UTRADA, DACCA, UPPA, TAPSCOM and the Workers Union are represented at a meeting taking place at Police headquarters at Naguru. Public transport was paralyzed this morning following taxi drivers’ strike leaving hundreds of passengers stranded. A number of people opted to walk to work. Taxi drivers and boda-boda riders under their umbrella body, National Union of Drivers, Cyclists and Allied Workers (NUDCAW) are protesting what they call violation of drivers’ rights by the Kampala Capital City Authority. According to Abdulla Kitata, the NUDCAW National chairman, KCCA has among other issues, ignored complaints and continues to use unlimited powers to levy exorbitant taxes and through its officials who impound vehicles without justifiable cause. Its all jubilation after the Busoga Parliament approved the election of William Nadiope IV as the new Kyabazinga of Busoga. He is now expected to begin work with immediate effect. Earlier Busoga Prime minister Wilson Mutebe Muwereza was against the move and had written to Jinja RDC to stop the Function at Bugembe. Muwereza had attempted to block the swearing in of William Nadiope as the new Kyabazinga saying it was against the law and unacceptable to the legitimate administration of Busoga Kingdom. Earlier some royal chiefs had already endorsed Edward Columbus Wambuzi as the true legitimate Busoga Kyabazinga. David Muluya Kauhne Wakooli the royal chief of Bukooli Chiefdom says his election was valid and has never been nullified. The High court in Kampala has convicted five people of murdering their employer in Kamengo. Kabagambe Jerevasio, Muhigo John, Kivumbi Jackson , Musisi John and David Mwanje attacked the 70 year old Josephine Nalwadda and cut her throat using a panga, knife ,axes . They took off with property worth 3 million shillings and 5 million shillings in cash. They have also been found guilty of aggravated robbery. They committed the offence in July 2012 at Muyala village, Kamengo sub-county in Mpigi district. Justice Jane Alividza will hand the convicts their sentences on Wednesday this week. INTERNATIONAL NEWS TEN regional countries have committed to raise a military fighting force of 5,000 troops under the Eastern Africa Standby Force (EASF) following a meeting in the Rwandan capital Kigali. However, the specifics of the force expected to become operational by December this year, are still being finalised by defence ministers from the member countries. This was at the closure of the five-day meeting of defence chiefs. The meeting was preceded by sessions of security experts and their respective chiefs of defence staffs. EASF draws membership from countries that include Burundi, Comoros, Djibouti, Ethiopia, Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles, Somalia, Sudan and Uganda. The standby force will be part of the African peace and security architecture. Abraham Borbor was one of three doctors in Liberia who had been given ZMapp and were showing signs of recovery. ZMapp has been credited with helping several patients recover, including two US doctors. More than 1,400 people have died from Ebola this year in four West African countries - Guinea, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone. Mr Brown provided no further details, but it is believed Dr Borbor died in the capital Monrovia.
