5 REASONS WHY I WANT TO LIVE IN ROMANIA by Ethan Richardson If I asked you to define what you thought quality of life meant, what would be your reply? Keep that thought for a minute, all will become clear soon. I think we all can agree that living Romania is an experience that will change you forever. I can tell you that there is something about Romania that keeps me checking flight prices every month and counting down the days until I next return home. Did I really say home, I think I did. Yes home. I think everyone has a spiritual home, somewhere they are drawn back to time and time again. Somewhere they cant stop thinking about. Somewhere they feel 100% safe and comfortable. With this in mind, here are my 5 reasons why I want to live in Romania. 1. I feel safe I have visited Sibiu, Brasov, Constanța, and Bucharest. In each place in I have felt safe and comfortable. Everyone can agree that as a tourist, when you visit foreign countries you are used to being careful and mindful of your own safety. In Romania there is feeling of safety and a sense that you will be ok. I think it has to do with the fact that everyone is so busy getting on with their own lives and there is a strong presence of religion in many people. I can assure you that you will feel the same. To be honest I feel safer in Romania than I do in here in the UK where I currently live. As a black person you have to be careful which areas of the UK you visit, some areas are totally off limits. In Romania almost everywhere is available to you. 2. There is always something to do and see In Romania there is always something to do and see. From the beautiful sights and sounds of the Carpathian mountains to the natural surroundings and the amazing range of bird species in the Danube delta. You can jump in the car and drive through this beautiful country taking it all in at your own pace. Even if you decide to stay in a city such as Bucharest there is so much to do and see. You may decide to look around 100,000 m² of the famous open-air ethnographic Village Museum located in Herăstrău Park. You may just decide to visit many tea houses that are ever-present in Romanian cities. Either way there are lots of things to do and see, take your pick. 3. The food If you havent tasted a fresh Romanian vegetables such as tomatoes you havent lived, seriously im not joking. Have you tasted those things, they are amazing! Let me tell you, in Romania you have amazing food. You have a wide range natural and tasty foods from fresh meat to flavor filled vegetables. In the UK sure you have vegetables, but they are probably imported from some country you have never been to. And guess what, they taste plain and lifeless. In Romania, the humble street market is your gateway to a life of fresh healthy food. Now, you may not think much of the market but there you have all that you need. The food is rich in colour and fresh. All the food has flavour, and will make you come back for more and more. 4. Family means a lot in Romania In Romania the family is at the heart of everything. People still have respect and loyalty to their family. They say that family is the foundation to a successful life and I truly believe this. I love the way that the elderly are respected and looked after. I think this is lost in some countries and in some cultures. This love and devotion to the family is something special and not to be taken lightly. I now have a family in Romania, and I love spending time getting to know them and learning from them everytime I visit. 5. The weather Now I know that Romania can be very cold and very hot. I can testify that the winter can be brutal. I went to the top of the arcul de triumf at the end of November 2012 and it was, what can only be described as, bitterly cold. But on the opposite side the weather can be beautifully hot, so hot that even I get a tan. You can laugh, its ok! We get nice weather in the UK but you cant beat relaxing on the beach in Mamaia. So there you have it, my 5 reasons why I want to live in Romania. If I asked you how you define quality of life how would you answer it? I would define it as a life where you live to the fullest enjoying all that is around you, from the people to the nature that surrounds you. I am passionate about my life and want to make the most of it. All I need now is a job as a writer / copywriter in Romania and Im on the next flight Thank you for taking the time to read this.
