5 Reasons Not to Re-Elect Bob Henderson and Fernando Dutra to Whittier City Council 1. Oil Project – City of Whittier embarked on Oil Project which they lost the court case. They went against the voters by trying to put an oil field in the middle of an open space preserve. The health effects from having an oil field in a residential area can be serious even to those passers by. We know this from the residences of Baldwin Hills and Esperanza by USC. 2. Trash fees with Consolidated Disposal – former City Councilman Greg Nordbak is the Public Affairs Manager for Republic Disposal that owns Consolidate Disposal. On February 10, 2012 Nordbak went to a Norwalk City Council meeting where Norwalk terminated their contract with Consolidated. Norwalk’s survey showed they were paying up to $5.00 per month per household. I pay Consolidated Disposal $0.80 more per month. So why did our City Council not look at our trash rates and try to get them reduced? 3. Water Fees going up – I’ll bet you did not know that Whittier sells its excess water to our contract City Attorney Dick Jones. He then sells it to other surrounding communities like Fullerton. Why does poor planning on out City’s part result in higher fees to us the public. 4. Apartment complex on commercial real estate – now the City wants go give up valuable real estate that can generate higher tax income then residential space. They want to put up a 76 apartment complex at the corner of Whittier Blvd and Catalina next to East Whittier Middle School. Bob Henderson in a article in the Orange County Register dated July 3, 2003 Henderson said housing developments do not pay for cities in the long run. For every dollar or property taxes collected, a city typically pays $1.10 to $1.40 in services. The conclusion is drawn from his more than 20 years of experience as a city councilman, and from his review of published studies. So is the City running inefficiently that are loosing that much money and if that was the case, why do we want more housing? 5. Uptown Parking Structure – two years ago the incumbents said they would open the parking structure on Sundays to improve parking the for customer access for the uptown business. They still have not done that. These issues show that our council is not concerned about the Community, just themselves. ELECT NICK DONOVAN TO WHITTIER CITY COUNCIL
