5 Tricks to a Great Sehri! 1-Eating small portions of food throughout the night instead of binging away 5 minutes before the call for prayer. This prevents us from devouring more food than our body can digest properly and feeling heavy and sick throughout the day. 2-Starting with lighter foods such as fruits and then progressing towards heavier foods such as parathas, saalan etc. Foods which are easily digested tend to pass through the digestive tract quickly. Heavier foods take longer to digest. When we eat foods that tend to stay longer in the digestive tract before eating lighter foods, the foods which are supposed to digest quickly ferment in the stomach. This often results in feelings of nausea, stomach cramps and gas. Eat fruits before your regular meal! 3-Drinking plenty of water throughout the night and having at least 2 glasses before azaan. This ensures that you are well hydrated for the coming day. Fasting in summer can be very tough. Water up! 4-Not going to sleep immediately after namaz. Going to bed after a meal is never a good idea. Let your food digest a little before you hit the sack. Its best to walk around a bit, do squats or 5 minutes of dynamic yoga. If you walk to your mosque for prayers youre not only earning more sawab, youre also aiding digestion. :) 5-Making the most of this time. Keep negativity away from yourself. Dont criticize, complain or compare. Try to see the best in others, give others the benefit of the doubt and focus on yourself. Fasting should be about self-reflection and self-correction rather than being judgmental of and trying to correct other peoples behaviors. Healthy Munching and Happy Fasting!
