5 people who could win Manchester United the league next - TopicsExpress

5 people who could win Manchester United the league next season Times are changing at Old Trafford, and the red half of Manchester felt particularly blue for much of last season. However, optimism is rife in the city once more, as United look toward next season to right their previous wrongs. The following are 5 people who could not only improve the Red Devils, but turn them into winners again: Louis Van Gaal The first, and obvious choice, is Louis Van Gaal. Ever since he was officially unveiled as the new boss at United, there has been a smile on the face of fans once again. David Moyes never really felt right as manager, but Van Gaal just does. No one is entirely sure why… There is just the feeling that he will achieve something great. An experienced manager, he has proven himself at some big clubs, and failed at others. Fans will be hoping that he does the former at Old Trafford, and early indications are that he will. Van Gaal has supposedly given the United board a firm list of names to chase during this summer’s transfer window, as he looks to rebuild a hugely underperforming squad. Ed Woodward The Executive Vice-Chairman has got his work cut out this summer. Last year, United performed terribly in the transfer window, missing out on major targets such as Cesc Fabregas and Leighton Baines. Ultimately, there was never an opportunity for David Moyes to make a significant imprint on the squad he inherited. The panic buy of Marouane Fellani looked almost laughable alongside everybody who they had missed out on. This summer, the club have been linked with some of the biggest names in global football once again, and they reportedly have £200 million to spend. If nobody arrives at the club this season, then they might have condemned themselves to an even more dismal campaign next time. If the player’s do come though, then the trophies might not be too far behind them. Ryan Giggs During his spell as interim manager, Ryan Giggs appeared to drag the club back to its core principles and values. There is no one currently working in the game who understands their football club like Giggs does, and that will serve as a vital influence when he assumes his role as Van Gaal’s assistant. The romantic would have had Giggs given the full-time top job, but realistically, he will be able to achieve more good things for the time being if he is kept a little out of the spotlight. The new players who will come in must learn about the club, and Giggs must teach them. Robin Van Persie Of course, on the pitch, points win prizes, and goals win points. Robin Van Persie endured a difficult, injury-strewn campaign last season,in which he was never particularly able to influence proceedings. Next year, though, he will be back and raring to perform under his new manager, and current Netherlands coach. Van Gaal has given RVP the captain’s armband ahead of the World Cup, and he might yet do the same at United. Either way,a fully-firing Van Persie will surely launch United into the top 4 at least. You only have to look at how great of an influence the player had over the successful Premier League campaign of two years ago. The guy is a winner. David De Gea Finally, whilst goals win games, you never really want to concede too many (just look at Liverpool last season). David De Gea was a shining light in an otherwise gloomy campaign for United, as the former Atletico Madrid shot-stopper seemed to really meet his potential. Next season he will be looking to push on in a big way, and will have to gel quickly with what is being tipped to become a new-look back-line. When he first arrived in Manchester, there was considerable doubt around the young Spaniard, but after the way he conducted himself last season, he now appears to be the safest of safe pair of hands.
