5-year-old Tied Up By Mother Dies In House Fire NAGPUR: Boy tied with a sewing machine to restrict him from going out by his mother died of 94% burn injuries due to an accidental house fire. Battling with her own 85% burns, 25-year-old Geeta Wanjari is regularly asking about her 5-year-old son, Piyush. She has not been told that Piyush perished in the accidental fire in their home in Bhankheda, Timki, on Saturday afternoon, as it is feared that she might not be able to forgive herself for tieing the little boy to the sewing machine to curb his mischief. Geeta, a tailor, had tied Piyush down to restrict him from going out to play. Minutes later, a fire took place at their one room house, landing the mother-son duo and her 2-year-old daughter at Mayo hospital because of burn injuries. Geeta had tried hard to free Piyush once fire started but both got caught in flames. Piyush, a fourth standard student, succumbed to his 94% burn injuries a few hours after the incident. Geeta is still undergoing treatment with her daughter Gunjan, who has sustained 20% burns. Geeta had kept food to cook on the gas stove and was taking down a kerosene can to light another stove to get hot water for Piyushs bath when the can fell down. The cans lid was open and it fell directly on burning gas stove causing an immense fire in the room. I rushed to free Piyush but flames leapt on us. Our screams alerted neighbours and they broke open the door to save us, Geeta said. She is continuously telling me that she had untied Piyush and asking if he is safe. For now, I have told her Piyush is undergoing treatment in another room. Whenever she hears Gunjan crying, she asks me about Piyush and says he might be in pain and need her, said Piyushs father Sanju Wanjari, a daily wager. After post mortem, Piyushs last rites were performed by Wanjari on Sunday afternoon. The accident took place when Wanjari had gone to work at a construction site, and Geeta remained at home with kids as usual. Describing Piyush as very mischievous boy, Wanjari said many times they would have to tie him up to restrict him. Geeta told Wanjari that even on day of accident, she had to forcibly bring Piyush home for a bath while he was busy playing with his friends since morning. She said that since he was trying to run out of the house, she had tied him to the sewing machine using some cloth strips and even locked home from inside. Gunjan was playing in another corner of the room. Wanjari added that neighbours timely action saved Gunjan from getting more burns. On the other hand, Geetas parents allege that Geeta might have attempted suicide with her children or Sanju might have set them ablaze and left for work. Tehsil police said they have investigated the spot and prima facie, and the situation at home was as described by Geeta in her statement. Piyushs death was registered as an accidental death.
