5 years ago today, about 7:30 or so at night, I received a phone call. When I picked up the phone and heard Mike Nigro on the other end I knew that a part of my life had come to an end. Mike said, We lost him. That day I lost a part of me too. For over 40 years Al had been a part of my life. Not that I was just a fan that followed his music. More than that. There was the fan club in Baltimore started in the mid 60s. Pictured below left is me presenting a plaque to Al at Al Martino Fan Club night at the Club Venus. Back when they had Supper Clubs an entertainer would appear for a week. The Fan Club would purchase the whole club for the Als opening night. The picture in the middle is from 1967 with my parents, Catherine and Joe Seminazzi. It was a February day. The Fan Club had 2 buses going from Baltimore to Cherry Hill N.J. It snowed the night before and Al had to leave his car in the parking lot. But he promised me he would meet the buses and on that cold February morning Al came and greeted his fans. He got on both buses and thanked everyone and then stayed outside to take pictures. That night we all went to the show at the Latin Casino. The picture third from the left is from more recent times. And the last picture shows some of the crowd from Als appearance at Church Street Station for the Columbus Day Italian Festival. I have so many great memories throughout the years and will always be grateful to Al for his friendship. And to Judi and Ali as well. My thoughts are with Judi Martino, Alison Martino, Michael Nigro Sr. and all of Als fans as we remember one of the greatest singers of our time. RIP Al.
