5 years to the date... I had a patient at the hospital that was a former KKK member,so as I came onto my shift I could hear him saying I dont want no colored people taking care of me at all,They are mud.So as I sat at the nurses station late that evening,I heard his telemetry machine go off.As I walked into his room he wasnt breathing,he was coding in respiratory distress I was like what do I do.The devil was telling me to let the guy with swastika tats on him die but as a professional I couldnt.We called a code blue and as I started chest compressions on him, my hands were all over his swatiska tattoos as I tried to save his life,it was a different kind of feeling.As rapid response arrived and took over I felt gracious,I knew I had grown up and learned to not acknowledge ignorant people.The next day he thanked me and said I am sorry for my ignorance.We saved his life and to this day I dont regret because I was doing what college and my professors taught me to do.I know so many will read this and say you should have let him die, but just think about it, you dont have to stoop to ignorant people levels.
