50 Years Ago Today on 16 September 1964 George Harrison strums his Rickenbacker as The Beatles meet Fats Domino - Singer backstage before their sold-out show at the City Park Stadium in New Orleans. Beatlemania struck The Big Easy as the lads were mobbed by fans at their hotel, the Congress Inn on Chef Menteur Highway. They signed autographs for Mayor Vic Schiro, who presented them with the key to the city and declared “Beatles Day.” That evening over 12,000 hysterical fans attended the concert, with over 200 police officers trying to hold back the crowd. Spirits of ammonia were administered to more than 200 people during the performance. New Orleans PBS WYES-TV has produced a special, WHEN THE BEATLES INVADED NEW ORLEANS, to celebrate The Beatles visit in 1964. youtu.be/F-C-TdBJC_8
