50 years ago, the Beatles appeared on Ed Sullivan. This weekend, Ill have a special recognition on my Fox News Channel show of this earth shattering event by hosting a Beatles tribute band to do a medley of Beatles hits. Among the millions watching that night was an 8 year old boy in a small southern town no one had ever heard of. He watched on the black and white TV that was in his tiny little shotgun rented house. From that night on, he wanted to be the 5th Beatle. That never happened, but it started his love of the guitar which has never ceased. He met Ringo in the greenroom of the David Letterman show many years ago (although hes pretty sure Ringo wont remember it since it was a brief brush with celebrity for the then grown man). His son angled to get a guitar signed by Ringo at a concert. That little boy who was stricken by the energy and excitement of the Beatles was me. America needed the Beatles in February of 1964. We had just gone through watching our young President murdered in one of our cities and were experiencing riots in major cities over the horrible race discrimination that was rampant. The Beatles gave us hope that there was more than chaos. A few years ago, I had the pleasure of meeting and getting to know Gregg Bissonette, who is now the drummer for Ringos band. I just got this message from Gregg about Ringos All Starr tour this summer. Yes, there IS more to life than politics. Music brings people together who would never even talk to each other. Its one of my passions for so many reasons, but I wanted to pass along Greggs message. Maybe you were one of those Beatles kids from the 60s. If so, youll get it. If not, read it and weep! Message from Gregg: Hope you all got to check out Ringo Starr on The GRAMMYs and the 50th Beatles celebration! Ringo played with the Don Was house band... Ringo just announced our summer North American All Starr Band tour!! Im SO excited....what a blast!! I cant wait!! Much peace and love! Gregg Ringo Starr is fresh off his performance at the Grammy Awards and the taping of the upcoming CBS special about the 50th anniversary of The Beatles on The Ed Sullivan Show. He’s now announced brand-new tour dates with his All-Starr Band. This version of the group is the same lineup that Ringo’s been playing with since 2012. It features Steve Lukather, best known for his work with Toto; Richard Page of Mr. Mister; Gregg Rolie of Santana and Journey fame; Todd Rundgren; and drummer Gregg Bissonette. “I love playing with this band,” Starr said in a statement, “and I can’t wait to get back out and play with them again.” The tour kicks off in Rama, Canada, on June 6 and runs through a July 19 concert in Los Angeles.
