50 years ago today, a great President, John Fitzgerald Kennedy, was laid to rest at Arlington National Cemetery. Here are some interesting ironies and coincidences between the assassinations of Presidents Abraham Lincoln and John F. Kennedy. Lincoln and Kennedy ran on strong civil rights platforms. Lincoln was elected in 1860. Kennedy in 1960. Their Vice Presidents were Southern Democrats named Johnson. Each hailed from a state starting with the letter T. Both Johnsons were born exactly 100 years apart, Andrew Johnson in 1808, Lyndon Johnson in 1908. Lincoln and Kennedy were both assassinated on a Friday and in the presence of their wives. Their assassins were in sympathy with the enemy. John Wilkes Booth shot Lincoln in a theater and ran to a warehouse. Lee Harvey Oswald shot Kennedy from a warehouse and ran to a theater. Lincolns secretary Kennedy advised him not to go to the theater. Kennedys secretary Lincoln advised him not to go to Dallas.
