500 LAGOS RESIDENTS PROTEST EPILEPTIC POWER SUPPLY ! Members of Irepodun Community Development Association (CDA) in Ikotun- Igando area of Lagos State yesterday marched on the office of the Ikeja Electricity Distribution Company (IKEDC) on Odogbolu Street, Ikotun. The protesters, numbering over 500, expressed their grievances over the epileptic power supply in the area. The coordinator of the protest, Comrade Monsuru Shoyombo, said the issue of power supply had been a source of serious concern to the people. He said: “I have been living in this community in the last 30 years. Although we have been encountering this before now, it was not as bad as it is now that the Power Holding Company of Nigeria (PHCN) has been privatised. We do not use light up to two hours in the two days we are supposed to have light because of load shedding.” According to Shoyombo, their bills are outrageous, yet they do not get the benefit of the money they pay. The Senior Marketing Manager of IKEDC, Ikotun, Iro Bolarewa, commended the people for the peaceful protest. Bolarewa, however, listed the challenges facing his company. He said: “The issue of light is a general phenomenon in Nigeria, especially since the privatisation. Regulation of light has become an issue that cannot be handled in just a short time, particularly at a time like this.” New Telegraph
