51 years of listening to Lata Mangeshkar’s melodious “ Aye - TopicsExpress

51 years of listening to Lata Mangeshkar’s melodious “ Aye mere watanke logo, jaraa ankhmein bharlo pani….” brings tears to the eyes of every patriotic Indian. Not mine anymore! Instead,my blood boils! A nation as strong as ours with an army dedicated & committed like ours, why do we have to come to a situation of extreme misery? 1962 & now, each time, aren’t we giving in to Chinese aggression? Are we as a political class not capable of delivering better respect to our soldiers &our motherland? In 1948, independent India’s first Prime minister Pt. Jawaharlal Nehru gifted Coco Island of the Andaman & Nicober group of Islands to Burma only in turn to be gifted to China by the Burmese. That’s the only island in the Bay of Bengal that is in China’s possession since then, which makes them strategically present in our seas. Absolute Lack of political vision, failed diplomacy, inept warfare strategy coupled with misperception of the nation’s internal security & lack of knowledge of India’s strategic land holdings, Pt. Nehru’s abysmal leadership led to the shameful debacle of 1962. It gave us wounds, which have not been able to be healed in over 50years. Pt. Nehru almost gave away half of North-East as he announced in the All India Radio, “my heart goes out to the people of Assam”. I shudder to even think how the people of North-east would have felt to see their Prime Minister so helpless! How could have the common people, anyway withstood an aggressive Chinese attack when their own Prime Minister had failed them? What started during Pt. Nehru’s Prime Ministership not only has had a far reaching effect in beating the morale of the armed forces, but also sown the seeds of social discrimination of the Indian society at large. A few drops of tears can never redeem him off the blunders after blunders he committed. His legacy continued and it was in the 80s decade under congress rule, that the Maoist activities in the infamous red corridor from Pashupati to Tirupati flourished to gain mammoth prominence in India. Maoist movement only got bigger & bigger not only in India but also in neighbouring Nepal till 2008 when they finally formed a pro-Maoist government abolishing the Nepal Kingdom, which was the only Hindu nation left in the world. If it was for me I’d not let such a song be ever written for my soldiersor for my countrymen. They deserve respect, dignity, pride & may be tears of joy, definitely not of sorrow! If we could give the nation the pride of victory as lately as Kargil i.e. 1999, why can’t we anymore? A great nation such as India with one of the world’s largest & most capable armies never deserved a fate like 1962. Neither should we have to cow down & work out settlements every time Chinese aggressors move inches forward in our land. Finally, it all boils down to one question. The question is: do we have the political will to do it? I’m sure we don’t, at least under the current weak, spineless leadership of Congress. We as a nation deserve dignity, pride & that can come only and only with strong decisive leadership. While I pay my tribute to Pradeepji for such heart wrenching composition & Lataji for her melodious rendition of “Aye mere watanke logo, jaraa ankhmein bharlo pani” which is etched in our memory & every time reminds us of how our braves were lost, let’s make a resolve. A resolve, a commitment that we will do all it takes to ensure that our motherland will never ever have to face such a shameful debacle as Sino-Indian 1962 war. I appeal to all of you. Join me in leaving no stone unturned in bringing a decisive strong leader to lead our nation in 2014. Jai Hind!
